Do you know how the seals of hydraulic cylinders work?

Sealing technology is an important technology in hydraulic cylinders. Choosing appropriate sealing components can reduce the failure rate of hydraulic cylinders during operation. Below, hydraulic cylinder manufacturers will tell you how it works?

1. In order to compensate for the groove size tolerance of the hydraulic cylinder itself with seals, manufacturers must strictly follow the national standard groove size tolerance, roughness and other data requirements for mass production in both seals and cylinders during the production process.

2. If the manufacturer does not pay attention to this issue during the production process. For example, if the groove is too deep, the gap between the root of the seal and the groove will cause the part to be unable to be fixed, and changes in the interference fit and rebound force between the lip and the sealing surface will lead to low-pressure oil leakage. If the groove is too shallow, it can also lead to accelerated damage to the sealing lip and frequent oil leakage.

3. The compression surface of the seal is lip shaped, with a small interference fit during installation, allowing the lip edge to fully contact the sealing surface and produce a sealing effect. When the hydraulic cylinder is working, as the pressure increases, its contact force and contact area increase, and the sealing performance enhances with the increase of pressure. When the oil cylinder returns, the pressure decreases, the contact area and contact force decrease, and the sealing performance decreases accordingly.

4. Seals generally work in a reciprocating motion form, and their shapes include lip seals such as L, U, V, and Y. Due to its design shape that allows the sealing surface to contact the lip inside the reciprocating hydraulic cylinder, this sealing effect is relatively good. The manufacturer's sealing contact force and area will increase or decrease as the pressure in the cylinder continues to rise or fall during reciprocating motion.

The above article introduced how the seals of hydraulic cylinders work by the hydraulic cylinder manufacturer.
